KANELBULLAR

Do you know what is fika?

It's something very important to Swedish culture, is a social institution. It's a verb and a noun that means drink coffee/tea or coffee break. Swedes are among the largest coffee consumers in the world.

The coffee can be served with biscuits, sweets or the typical Kanelbulle (cinnamon buns). These buns are so important that they have an official day, October the 4th Kanelbullens dag.

And today I bring the recipe, wich is really easy.

Ingredients:
  • Mass:
    • 5 dl    milk
    • 50 g    yeast or a lyophilized yeast on
    • 1,5 dl  sugar
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 15 dl   wheat flour
    • 150 g   butter
  • Filling:
    • 125g    butter
    • 1,5 dl  sugar
    • 2 tsp   ground cinnamon

  • Topping:
    • 1       egg
    • Pearl sugar

Dissolve the yeast in warm milk, then add the sugar, the salt and most of the flour. Add the butter and knead vigorously for a few minutes adding the remaining flour.

Cover and let stand for 30 minutes.

Prepare the filling.

Stretch the mass into a rectangular sheet, spread the filling, roll and cut the buns.

Let stand the buns for another 30 minutes.

Paint them with the egg and add the pearl sugar.

Bake for 8 minutes in the preheated oven at 250º.

And now, we have our Kanelbullar. An easy and delicious recipe.

Let's go fika!
